Homemade Wood and Canvas Canoe

I thought it might be of interest to post this picture of a canoe my grandfather built with my father's help back in the 1940's. My family was fairly poor in a rural setting and it was constructed from orange crates they got one per week from the local general store. My father was around 10 or 12 years old and remembers the process and the "airplane paint" they used on it. The picture is from a 1973 trip to Forked Lake in the Adirondacks of New York. Sadly, the canoe spent the end of it's days subjected to southern humidity and termites.
