Henri Vaillancourt birch bark canoe at auction

In case you may have missed it, a very nice 13-1/2' birch bark canoe built by Henri Vaillancourt in 1980, and still in excellent condition by all appearances, has just sold at auction: http://www.invaluable.com/auction-l...mail&utm_campaign=keywordalertlive&utm_term=2. The reported hammer price is $2,200. Rather surprising to me, given that I would have thought the end result could well have been two or three times that price. However, the pre-sale estimate was quoted at $1,000 - $2,000. Still, that's an awesome buy, since purchasing a new one from Henri today would no doubt be far, far costlier.
