Can anyone tell me more about it? How old, etc? Paid $200.

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 183784 is an avocado color so that isn't a good match. My guess is that you have serial number 183781. This a 16 foot long FG (fiberglass) model that weighed 87 pounds. It was built in September, 1969. The original exterior gelcoat colors were red on the hull with desert white on the deck. It shipped on January 14th, 1970 to Fayetteville, New York. The back side indicates that it was purchased on April 22nd, 1970 and moved to DeWitt, New York. Scans showing both sides this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join, or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Holy cow! Thank you so much! And yes, that is a 1 at the end…not a 4! 183781. Such great info! Didn’t realize how old it was. I was told it was probably from the 80s. Hoping it’ll still float! There were some repairs made to it but it seems pretty sturdy. Any idea on what the weight limit for carrying passengers would be? Thanks again! Awesome!

Oh one more question if you don’t mind…so, what is the name of this model? i don’t see it actually listed here unless I’m overlooking it…possible because I clearly need my eyes examined.

This is the FG model and was the first fiberglass canoe that Old Town offered. All of the models in their orininal catalog from 1901 had two letter names (IF, HW, FB, and GG) so they decided to continue the tradition.
