Never mind the canoe. I about lost it when he (SPOILER ALERT) throws the guitar in the water at the end. It looks like a Lloyd Loar era Gibson. Come to think of it the whole package is lovely, the canoe, the guitar the parasol and Thelma Todd in the stern. Nice J stroke by the way Thelma.
Groucho sings a sarcastic verse, sitting in a canoe strumming a guitar as Miss Bailey rows (paddles). This is in line with his suspicions about the college widow’s intentions throughout the film.
Everyone says I love you
But just what they say it for I never knew
It’s just inviting trouble for the poor sucker who
Says I love you.
There is also a sly sexual reference that slipped past the censor:
Take a pair of rabbits who
Get stuck on each other and begin to woo
(At this point Groucho turns and leers lasciviously into the camera as Miss Bailey stops rowing (paddling) and grins sheepishly at him.)
And pretty soon you’ll find a million more rabbits who
Say I love you.
It's nice to see somebody whose paddling technique is worse than mine, even if she is a whole lot better looking. My guess is that the canoe is being towed.
