To Fellow WCHA Members,

Memorial Day is just two weeks away. Memorial Day is often thought of as the beginning of the summer season. Summer is special to paddlers allowing us to enjoy our canoes on our lakes and rivers. This Memorial Day weekend is also the official beginning or opening of the Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum. If you do not yet have plans for Memorial Day weekend consider joining the Great Rivers Chapter of the WCHA take part in the Grand Opening of the museum. We plan to be camping and paddling in the Spooner area and attending the Grand Opening.

We need to have you RSVP by 5/25 if you plan to camp. The campground does not take reservations but if we know you are camping Jerry or folks working with the museum will stake claim on a campsite for you. If you are not a camper join us for a paddle on the Minong Flowage and a visit to the museum. There are a number of motels in the area.

Saturday May 29th the Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum will have a hospitality room open from 7 am to 10 am for early arrivers. A singing group will perform from 10 am to 11 am. At 11am there will be three speakers including Jill Dean cofounder of the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association. A formal ribbon cutting will be at noon followed by tours of the museum. A band will be playing from noon until 2 pm. If you have not yet checked out the museum’s website go to www.wisconsincanoeheritagemuseum.com for more details. We hope to see you there.
