Hate to be that guy but I'm stumped.

Was advertised as a 16' Peterborough but it's 17.5....I knew it was longer, three thwarts, from the pictyre here from the ad. 35" beam

No decal, I can't find a serial number.

Any idea?

Needs a little gunwale work....about 3" in bow...and pretty sure seats are replaced but other than that...and a broken bow stem band...she looks ready for the water....when it thaws here in Central NY.

Not an expert, but Langford's show up fairly often in Upstate NY. They offered a 17 1/2.

I see that the tips of the inner rails aren't tapered where they meet the decks. I've been thinking that's typical of Canadian canoe makers. Am I off base there?

Also... what is the width of the stem bands? All Canadian canoes I've restored used 1/2" rather than 3/8".

Howie,
I’ve always used 3/8 stem bands on Canadian canoes, and all others as well. I’ve only used 1/2” on rowboats. Is it possible that you used 1/2” because there was supposed to be an outer stem?

Well, these canoes came to me with 1/2" wide stem bands. And, if I recall correctly, they were all canadian made: Langford, Bastian, Great Canadian.

You know Howie, you are correct. I guess my thoughts were of Chestnut and Peterborough primarily. I’ve begrudgingly taken in a couple Great Canadian canoes and they do have a fat entry with 1/2 stem bands. I restored one Huron, also begrudgingly, and I think it had a wide band as well. Thanks for the correction and reminder of some of the canoes I had forgotten about!
