Enthusiastic about Wooden Canoes
Attention boatbuilders:
Chapter Member Dennis Kearney is selling two vintage 16 foot Old Town works in progress, parts included. He's clearing out a workshop and these boats need to go. Dennis is in Gibsonia, PA, just north of Pittsburgh. If you're interested, contact Dennis at 412-965-4341/d.kearney@verizon.net. If you need delivery help, contact me (Brad) to coordinate. I've advised Dennis to also post them on the WCHA classifieds.
Here are the details from Dennis:
S/N 113651 16' CS Yankee - Original completion date June 1934. I have removed the fiberglass exterior, seats, decks, outer gunwales and keel, thwarts and stems and have installed inner supports to hold the shape. I stripped about 1/4th of the interior varnish. I have purchased new canvas and compound. It still needs some 3 or 4 ribs replaced and some stem and planking work.
S/N 145403 16' CS HW - Original completion date July 1947. This is a nice project canoe that has open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, half ribs, a keel and a floor rack. It also has had the exterior canvas removed. Presently it is intact and hanging from my shop ceiling. It could use some seat, deck and outer gunwale work but I think the stems are good.
I would also include some raw components (decks, gunwales, ribs) that I have cut out but not formed. The shop is heated and available for anyone to visit by calling me to set up an appointment.
