I got my just finished Peterborough Mermaid on the water today. I needed to pick up some parts for the auction canoe from Andy Hutyera. I wanted to try out my new boat and Andy also had a Chestnut Pal that he just finished recanvasing and painting. I called my brother Scott and arranged for us all to meet at Salt Fork Lake which is central to all of us. We had a nice paddle on this 60 degree February day and then had lunch at the lodge to catch up on a few things. I am really happy with the Mermaid, although with the seat placement I need the 30 lb. pack up front to get the proper trim, but that is what I was after. I love the hanging plank seat that I made (see earlier thread) http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?14632-Canoe-seat
It was easy to get one hip up against the inwale and then easily slide over to the other side without being funneled to the middle as with a soft hanging seat. It's going to be a great little solo tripping boat for me. Only weighs 49 lb.
