The bottom of my canoe has two flat spots in it. I;m not sure what caused it. Someone borrowed it and strapping it down may have caused this,i don't know. Does anyone know how to fix this situation, and how will this effect the boat? Thank you.
I forwarded a copy of your message to the Customer Service Department at the Old Town Canoe Company and they responded with the following suggestions.
"Typically, the larger the dent is the easier it’ll be to fix. You should be able to push the bump/dent out from the inside of the canoe by using heat from a high powered blow dryer or natural sunlight. What you’ll want to do is place the boat on even ground and heat the area to the point where it is warm to the touch but NOT melting. Then try and push the dent out from the inside by putting a weight such as a sand bag in the watercraft or even just standing on it. I would suggest looking for a weight without any sharp edges. Once the dent pushes out, place the canoe into the shade with a weight on the dent to keep it popped out and allow it to cool off. Once it cools, the hull should harden back into its normal shape or form."
"If you are transporting your canoe on top of your vehicle, ensure that you are not strapping it down too tight because it can certainly warp the canoe. Leave a little bit of slack in the line but don’t tie it too tight like your plucking a guitar string."
"I hope this helps. Please feel free to give us a call if you have any other questions or concerns. Thanks again and have a great weekend."
