CR3761 17 CR built by ?

I have a 17 footer with the above Serial No. stamped on the stern stem. It has open gunnels. I purchased it many years ago from an old gentleman in Walker, Minnesota who said it was an Old Town purchased in the middle 30s but I am very skeptical.

Any Ideas?
