I was amused to discover the page at http://www.wickedlocal.com/article/20130527/News/305279935 about Weston, Massachusetts that says "In 1890, H.V. Partelow & Co. petitioned to expand its boatbuilding shop on the Charles River at South Avenue. Town residents protested the operation was noisy, dangerous to bridge crossers, and a 'serious injury to the value of their estates.' Partelow moved across the river to Auburndale. Alden Kingsbury, member of an old Weston farm family, built canoes in his father’s shop and later his own shop on River Road, beginning in 1914. After World War II, he and his son David, in one six-month period, built 36 canoes, which they sold for $135 to Norumbega Park and Riverside Recreation Grounds.” The 1946 Old Town Canoe Company catalog listed a 16 foot Otca model at $150 for comparison.
