canvassing over paint?

I got a request to put canvas over a 'new canoe that was never finished, but the exterior planking was painted, for use as a display piece in a restaurant'. I can't think of a good reason why new canvas could not be put over paint. After new canvas, I'd fill, then paint in the usual way. Comments? Tom McCloud

I agree. No reason I can think of. Is it quite fair? Some of the paint may get sanded off if you have to fair any high edges.
