Canoe Lookup Please

Hello - I would like information on this canoe, which was recently returned to the property where it was first used (an old hotel). The canvas is a very appealing yellow, but I assume it was originally white or straw. I believe it is an Old Town, the serial number is 32802 17. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Steve

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 32802 is a 17 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Otca model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, a keel, and two number one grade, spruce paddles that were four feet and nine inches long. It was built between June and August, 1914. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on August 14th, 1914 to Sodus Point, New York. A scan of this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/pricing-plans/join to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply if you have any other questions.

Benson
