Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hello everyone,
Very helpful forum here, glad to be a part of it. I have recently acquired the canoe in the attached picture, the previous owner (and myself) have no idea who made it. I've gathered from the forum that the deck and stem can sometimes be an indicator. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Greg

I'll guess Early Chestnut,

No tapper to the inwales or the ribs with a heart shaped deck.

Looks like a nice project.

I forgot to mention stamped on the inner starboard gunnel is the number 1005. Thanks

Thanks for the input, I can see where ID'ing a canoe can be difficult at best. Here's what I've been able to piece together on the Chestnut:

From Dragonflycanoe.com:
Pre-Fire (1904-1921)
The deck is heart shaped and sharply cut underneath (same as mine) and the cant ribs are the same width as the rest (mine are wider).

Post-Fire (1922-1979)
The deck is semi-circular (not mine) and the cant ribs are wider than rest (similar to mine).

Possibly a 1922 with decks that didn't burn? Did everything burn in the fire? Were there outside suppliers?
