Build Record

Hi Fred! Is this your next project?

Old Town 96171 is a 17 foot CS (common sense, or middle grade) HW model canoe, completed from November 1927 to March 1928. It has open spruce gunwales, ash decks/thwarts/seat frames, a keel, outside stems, sponsons, and a floor rack. Original color was dark red. It was shipped to A.G. Alford Sporting Goods in Baltimore, MD, on March 26, 1928.

Does that match the canoe?

The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you and anyone else reading this will join or renew membership in the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

Snowing like crazy in these parts!

Kathy

Thanks Kathy....yes, everything matches but this canoe also has a sailing rig....no, not ready for a new project yet..Fred

The sail rig may have been original to the canoe, as the sporting goods shop may have had one on-hand. Sounds like a nice canoe.

Stay well... hope 2010 means no shoulder pain!
