A friend has a couple of Old Towns in his family's estate. Could you please look up the build sheet for these two serial numbers? Serial number 100656 and 182717. They appear to be 15' and 11' long.

Thanks and regards,

Mike

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 100656 is a 15 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, fifty pound model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, oak decks, oak thwarts, oak seats, a keel, and outside stems. It was built between January and July, 1929. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July, 13th, 1929 to Duluth, Minnesota.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 182717 is an 11 foot long lightweight model with a keel. It was built between February and April, 1969. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on January, 23rd, 1975 to Wayzata, Minnesota. The back side of this card indicates that it has some repairs in 1973 and was purchased on July 15th, 1976 and moved to West St. Paul, Minnesota. Scans of these build records can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that your friend could have another number or manufacturer if these descriptions doesn't match the canoes. Feel free to reply here if you or your friend have any other questions.
