Build Record Request #1

Dave Burke

Curious about Wooden Canoes
Could I please have the Build Records for OT #26701 & #94957 - both should be 25 foot.

Thanks

Dave

Old Town 26701 is a 25 foot CS grade ("common sense") war canoe built during May of 1913. It has red Western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, and birch seat frames, decks, and thwarts. It was painted dark green and shipped to Camp Beckett in Beckett, Massachusetts on June 5, 1913.

Old Town 94957 is another 25 foot, CS grade war canoe with red Western cedar planking. It has open spruce gunwales, arched decks, and birch seat frames and thwarts. The canoe was painted red and sent to Balden Sporting Goods in Pittsfield, MA on May 21, 1928.

Scans of these records are posted below. They sound like cool old war canoes... a neat find! Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details.

War Canoes

Hi Kathy

Thanks for the Build Records OT 26701 25 and OT 94957 25. These two canoes are at YMCA Camp Becket in Becket MA and as far as I can determine have been in continuous use since they were delivered. There are two other War Canoes there OT 26736 25 and OT 87987 25 which need some minor repairs and new canvas. If you could look up the Build Records for the other two it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Dave
