Big Run State Park Paddle, 3 Rivers Chapter
3 Rivers Chapter of WCHA was fortunate to have a paddling event at one of our favorite places, Big Run State Park in Western Maryland, a remote mountain area. It was a perfect morning to paddle, not too hot, with a refreshing, light breeze. Twelve members attended. The paddle was followed by a sumptuous picnic of burgers, salads, and lots of desserts. Craig Johnson lit a cheerful campfire. Then we had the afternoon to visit with friends. Several members camped on site for 2 nights, while others came for the day of the paddle only. As usual, Ruth Z. heard and saw a lot of birds: red winged black bird, golden crowned kinglet, yellow warbler, Baltimore oriole, robin, towhee, goldfinch, yellow rumped warbler, chipping sparrow, song sparrow, common yellow throat, crow, raven, red-eyed vireo, blue jay, catbird, redstart, black capped chickadee, red-bellied woodpecker, downy woodpecker. We took a photo at the end of the afternoon to record the event, and while doing this, a heavy rainstorm came up as the camera was counting down, and everyone laughed on cue.
All in all, a great day for our chapter!
