I figured I’d put this out here- is anyone making a trip from west to east that can trailer a 14’ boat? I’m sure I can cover gas costs!

Specifically Laramie, wy or Reno, nv to east coast or any closer to Connecticut than 2000 miles. Even just to Chicago- I have family there.

I may drive out this summer and grab the boat on my own if I don’t find anyone.

A few more details and how important is timing?
I make an annual trip to Eastern Idaho to bow hunt. I have already planned this years trip. I will arrive in Idaho in roughly the first week of September and return towards the end of the month. I often stop in Laramie on the way out since it is a logical stopping place for my final day drive. On the way back, I blow through there and try to get as far beyond Wyoming as possible.
If the boat is on a good workable trailer, I have a hitch on my truck. I can accommodate 2 or 2 5/16.
As long as I don't have to stray far off of 80, I would be willing to consider towing a small boat. My terminus East is Rochester.... and as noted, towards the end of September. I try to pass below ChiTown....the traffic is dreadful there and for some reason, my arrival is always later in the day. As a rule, my stops enroute are totally ad hoc and based upon how I feel on the particular day, but I can us be more resolved if necessary. I stopped in South Bend last year.
PM me or put some more meat on the bones.

The pictures at https://wcha.org/catalogs/Alden/ show the trailer and boat when it left Maine for Nevada many years ago. I suspect that it hasn't changed much since then.

That looks homemade and just a bit sketchy.......If those same tires are still present, they would be overdue for replacement. Makes me wonder about the condition of the bearings. And is that axle bent? That trailer could turn a 3 day trip into an odyssey.... It might be wise to leave the trailer out West and have KAS haul the boat......

I know the trailer made it to Reno at least 5 or more years ago and there was talk of redoing the bearings, but it does not inspire confidence. Plus there is figuring out how to register it.

I was putting the call out to see if there was even a remote possibility of someone making the trip. I can try and solve some trailer issues in the meantime.

If I drove out, I have a bandit trailer that may work that I’d transfer the boat to and have officially registered.

Does KAS do boats this size? What is the website link?

Benson, do you have an idea what that boat weights?

The KAS web site at https://shipyourkayak.com/ lists kas@shipyourkayak.com as their email to confirm if they will take a boat like this. Another option is that some automotive shippers will move boats on trailers. I don't know the weight since it was never listed in the catalogs. The similar 13.5 foot long Whitecap lapstrake sailing dinghy was 380 pounds as shown at https://forums.wcha.org/attachments/7815/ so this will be more than that. It has also been covered with fiberglass which will add some too. One end was not easy to lift alone when launching it in the past. Good luck,

Benson
