Any Idea What Book?? (About Solo Canoe, 1970's)

Hand made things are better
My 88 year old dad just told me about a book he read in the late 60's, early 70's and would like to read again, but he couldn't recall the name. He said it was written by a fellow who'd get a job and work until he had enough money to take his canoe (a wood canvass) into Canda alone for a year at a time; then he'd come back to civilization, get another job, save up and do it again. The book was about his adventures. Anybody know what book that might have been? I'd like to find a copy for him--and read it myself.

That sounds like Robert Perkins, although he is also known for films in addition to being an author. The link below lists his books.

I looked up Perkins, and it sounds right, but he's about a generation later. My dad read the book about 20 years before Perkins has anything published (that I found).

That's some neat stuff though. I think I'll be watching some documentaries. Thank you.
