An Oldie

Wooden Canoeist
This was an early canoe from the Delaware Canoe Club. It's about 17ft long, 32 inches wide. Planking is 4 inches wide and appears to be scarfed. Decks are fluted and stem has the thin, wide copper stems like an E.M. White. No numbers, ribs are 2 1/4 wide and tapered but also tapered in thickness towards the gunwales. Appears to have had an oval plate on the forward deck. Only a single narrow cant rib in the stems. I have tried to attach pictures.

Hi Bud,

Sure looks like an E.M. White to me. The decks are right, as are the single narrow cant ribs and the bang plate. White made a big deal about the planking being bevelled.

Cheers,
Dan
