Alaskan Canoe Company

Dave Nagel

This Year's Obsession
I found a Canoe for sale and the owner says it is "Made by the Alaskan Canoe Company." I have not heard of them, the guy says it is "Canvas and wood lathe" construction. It looks like ribs and planking covered in canvas to me. Any information about this canoe would be appriciated. The guy says all it needs is a new Keel, he suggested fiberglassing it. I might try to save it from that fate.

Thanks
Dave

Dave,

I don't know about the Alaskan Canoe Company, but think I saw some pictures of that canoe. It was described as lathe and canvas, but it looked more like a Navarro.

Did it look like this?

Thanks for the reply,
Here are the pictures the guy posted. They do look like the ones on the Navarro websight. Is this the one you were looking at?

Dave

It does look like the Mansfield too. Right down to the different shade of brown on the floor where the skid plate was. I am going to look at it tomorrow if it hasn't sold. It will be interesting to see if it is canvas like the guy says. I'll look close before I plop down any money.

Thanks
Dave
