"Tiger Rag" back on the tidal Potomac
In Memoriam
Those who attended Assembly in 2016 or 7 may have seen this 12' Huron canoe on display. It was restored by me over the winter of 2015-6. It has traditional canvas, filler, primer and paint, with Kirbys being the top coat. It has been paddled a number of times. Up until a couple months ago the paint was as smooth as a baby's ear, and I was quite pleased with its appearance, but it has now developed thousands of small, hard lumps, the size o f the head of a pin. These lumps are not full of either water or air - they are not blisters. It is almost like I sprinkled a handfull of sand onto wet paint. I intend to continue to paddle it, and when the time comes for another coat of paint, I expect these bumps will easily sand off. But what caused them to form, particularly so long after the paint job?? Tom McCloud
