Wonderful forum here. Once I update my Paypal info, I'm certainly going to contribute...

I'm hoping someone can help me to know more about the canoe I just acquired. Seller didn't have much information on it other than it was his grandfather's. The few scraps of canvas left showed it to be red, but I'm not yet convinced that that was the original color.

My wife and I would like to bring it back as close to original as possible.

Thanks,

Andy

Hi Andy,

Your canoe is a 16 foot AA Grade (top grade) Otca Model with western cedar planking, mahogany gunwales, 20" mahogany decks, mahogany seats and thwarts. It was equipped with a keel, outside stems, a floor rack and a painter ring. It was built in 1923, painted dark red and sold to a man in Philadelphia, Penn.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA andhttp://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe.

Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
