62874?

Wooden Canoes are in the Blood
Looking for the year & model for an OT 16FT long deck, serial # 62874, or maybe 32874. From the clues I've been given I believe it was restored by Jack McGreivey. Thanks for any info!

This build record was not scanned well but appears to show an Ideal model in AA grade. The record for number 32874 shows an 18 foot long Charles River model in CS grade so that isn't a good match. Sorry,

Benson

I was able to research the paper records at the factory yesterday and got a better image of this build record. The Old Town canoe with serial number 62874 is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Ideal model with red western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, thirty inch mahogany decks, half ribs, and a keel. It was built between October, 1920 and February, 1921. The original exterior paint color was brilliant green. It shipped on February 15th, 1921 to Rochester, New York City. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply if you have any other questions. Good luck with the restoration,

Benson
