Hi;
Back in 2003, i received information regarding oldtown guide #173197. Unfortunately all i have of the information is the year/model and part of the "shipped to" information as the printout came out over-sized. for reference purposes, the thread id was "forums.wcha.org/attachment.php?s=&postid=7643" i can't bring the thread back up and am looking for the information again as i'd like to sell the canoe. It's in fairly good shape, no canvas, the wood is rather dry and needs some planking repairs. all the thwarts, seat frames and inner gunwales are good, outers are intact but have a scarf joint in them, not sure if it's a factory scarf (doubt it) or not.

FWIW i also have a 1910 HW 16 footer,#11858, CS grade that needs new gunwales and canvas (i've had that one since '82 and won't part with it) and have a 1923 18-foot ideal #77960 that sadly is in two pieces with no planking remaining after a thunderstorm threw it against a tree during a restoration by a friend of mine. (it was in really rough shape to start, with 3 layers of fiberglass over the canvas and about 100 pounds of bondo between the ribs on the floor! that one may be donated as-is to the easton heritage canal museum as it was ordered by the easton canoe club.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any info you may be able to provide on the Guide.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 173197 is an 18 foot long, Guide model with half ribs. It was built between July 1963 and May 1964. The original exterior paint color was Guide's Special green. It shipped on June 12, 1964 to Avon, Conn. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
