Curious about Wooden Canoes
Recently aquired what I think is a 1939ish English style Peterborough.
Brass plate reads;
This is a Peterborough Craft
Model 16, Serial 1496
GRD. PTD. Cedar

Length 15ft8in, beam 30in, 24in decks.
This is an all wood canoe. Ribs are 5/8in half round, 2in C-C, planks are 1-1/4in.
Needs some work but is basically sound.

Hey Paul,
Interesting puzzle you have there. You obviously own a painted grade longitudinal strip canoe, but the model number #16 keeps showing up as a 11ft cedar rib model in liturature I have. If you didnt have the name plate I would have guessed a model #43 (15.5' x 29.5") or a #44 (16' x 31"). Could it be that the nameplate is not original?
