18-foot OT canoe

Hello folks,
I've taken in OT #148966 -18 for repair and re-canvas. Can you please look up the build record?
Don in Vermont

Sorry about that - the usual problem of trying to see through a lot of old varnish. What about 143966 - 18? (It is and 18-footer, and it sure weighs more than 50 lbs)
Hi Don,

That number looks better. 143966 appears on a 18' Guide in CS grade with ash seats, decks and thwarts. It also had half ribs and a keel. It was painted GS (Guide Special) Green and sold to Bulldog Camp, The Forks, Maine. There is a notation that it was taken on car - probably the customer picked it up at the factory on 4/26/46 A copy of the build record is attached.

Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. If you are already a WCHA member, THANK YOU!

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
