17' Old Town or not?

Grand Laker Builder
I have a canoe s/n 17 - 12260. It has stems similar to Old town but it has heart shaped decks and it's a closed gunnel model. Maybe it's a Robertson or a Kenebec? I'm curious about the maker of this canoe and it's manufacture date. Any ideas?

Compare your canoe with the Carleton build record attached below. It could be a match. Carleton canoes usually have heart-shaped decks.

These scans were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as described at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ in more detail. If you are not already a member, we hope that you will join or contribute to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. Kennebec also built a 17' Kennebec model canoe with that serial number as well. It was a type a with spruce gunwales. It is not clear from the ledger whether it had closed gunwales, though it was built and shipped in 1917, and other canoes on that page are listed as having closed gunwales. This canoe does not have a destination listed.

Perhaps posting a photo will help sort out the builder.

Carlton?

It seems similar to the description of the build record for the Carlton. It has the attachments for a floor rack (which is missing) and a mast step and seat. the seat is without a hole for the mast and the step looks to be an added on piece so I'm not sure about that. I'll take photos of them tomorrow and send them to you.
