16' Old Town

Thanks for the help with the Kennebec. Can you help me on a 16' Old Town #164349-16. After seeing other Old Town # requests I realized I was missing the first number and as far as I can tell it is a 1. I thought my father bought this canoe new in 1950, does that fit?
Thanks
Craig

The Old Town canoe with serial number 164349 is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Guide model with a keel. It was built between November, 1955 and January, 1956. The original exterior paint color was G. S. (Guide's Special) green. It shipped on February 21st, 1956 to Coshocton, Ohio. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Does that fit? Thanks,

Benson

Dad,s canoe

Thanks for the information. Coshocton is my hometown so even though I had the year wrong at least I know my father did buy it new. I just picked up a 1927 Kennebec so I can keep paddling while I restore the Old Town. I'm sure I'll have lots more questions once I get started. Thanks again.
