Old Town Canoe - 171567

Curious about Wooden Canoes
I have a CD of serial numbers and Old Town Canoe cards somewhere...

Any info on this Old Town Canoe - Serial # 171567 - would be very much appreciated.

I'm hoping it was built in 1962, a most wonderful year.

Thanks,
Jeff.

Welcome, the Old Town with serial number 171567 is an 18 foot long Guide model canoe with a keel. It was built between November, 1961 and July, 1962. The original exterior paint color was G. S. (Guide's Special) green. It shipped on March 23rd, 1964 to Lynnfield, Center Massachusetts. The back side of the card indicates that it may have moved to Canton, Massachusetts by March, 1976 when there was a previous request for a copy of the build record. Scans of both sides of this build record can be found below.

These scans were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate, join, or renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson
