build record please

The Old Town canoe with serial number 148832 is an 18 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, square ended paddling model with a rowing seat, red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, spruce thwarts, spruce seats, half ribs, a keel, an outside stem, sponsons, rowlocks, and a painter ring. It was built between May and July, 1947. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July 19th, 1947 to Woodland, Maine.

A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the thumbnail image attached below. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

This sounds like a good project. Please feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

build record

Thanks Benson not like I needed another project with three others in the works but I thought it would be good to have something a bit bigger for when it blows haaad on the water. She must have been redone as the sponsons are gone. I picked her up from the son of the original purchaser with some fond memories of days spent. She has not been in the water since 1972. My 13 yr old is helping me with the project and I told him if he sees it through it could be his someday.
Thanks again,
Jim

Your second picture doesn't appear to show any extra screw holes in the ribs so the sponson note on the build record may have been an error. Have fun,

Benson
