Build Record Request

Lew's Canoes

Canoe Builder
Please post the Build Record for OT #68062-16. This old girl is in pretty rough shape, and she just now gave up a well hidden serial number. We have her in the intensive care unit and are going to try to bring her back to life. Thanks, Lew

The Old Town canoe with serial number 68062 is a 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Charles River model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, and a keel. It was built between December, 1921 and January, 1922. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on March 13th, 1922 to Elmira, New York. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the restoration and recovery.

Benson

I guess I read the number wrong as my canoe is a 17' Old Town. See if 69899 is a 17' model please. Sorry for the inconvienence.

The other information in the previous message applies here as well so I won't repeat it. Does this match any better?
