"Whereas, the Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum will open in Spooner, Wisconsin on May 29, 2010 to preserve the heritage of fine canoe craft; now, therefore, be it resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, that the members of the Wisconsin legislature express appreciation for fine canoes and canoe builders past and present and declare May 29, 2010, to be Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Day"

So reads Wisconsin Assembly Joint Resolution 111 to help celebrate the grand opening of the Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum in Spooner. The festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with music and refreshments on the porch. At 12 noon, the doors will open and visitors will be guided through the 2,400 square foot exhibit hall for a look at such rare and lovely canoes as an 1890 Gerrish, a Rushton Nessmuk, a Joe Lucius, and many more. This year's featured exhibit is "The Canoes of Wisconsin". The tour will also visit the canoe shop where attendees can see how wooden canoes are built, maintained and restored. Following the tour, a Wisconsin style lunch will be available.
