Vintage canoe seats

Scale model canoe builder
Need pictures of old slat-back/fan back wooden seats. If I even know what i am talking about?
I built a 52" model canvas canoe model, and this time I want something different for the seats.
I need to know how they set into the canoe? Pictures are good if anyone has pictures.
Thanks
R.

Sounds like you are thinking of the back rests or "chair back" that sits on the floor of the canoe and rests on a thwart-- if you are talking about a twentieth century wood-canvas canoe. There have been backs for the actual canoe seats but I associate them with Rushtons and other older boats-- seat-backs on hinges that are actually attached to seats. Old Town had a fan-shaped back rest-- I'll find pictures but have to leave my house right now.

These were shown in the Old Town catalogs from 1916 to 1978 and the CD from http://store.wcha.org/The-Complete-Old-Town-Canoe-Company-Catalog-Collection-CD-ROM.html has many pictures of them. One example from the 1918 catalog is attached below. These usually sat on the bottom of the canoe between the ribs and leaned against a thwart. They did not replace the standard seats. There is one shown at http://www.stroudwater.biz/sailing/parasol1.jpg between the parasol and the carbide light. Please send us pictures of your results.

Is your model canoe a model of a particular make?

The ones offered by Morris are similar to the Old Town seat backs, but not exactly the same --

From the 1901 catalogue, where only one style was offered:

From the 1917 catalogue, where two more styles were offered:
