The Old Town canoe with serial number 127492 is an 18 foot long, GS grade, Guide's model with open spruce gunwales a keel. It was built between April, 1939 and January, 1940. The original exterior paint color was G. S. (Guide's Special) green. It was shipped on March 5th, 1940 to Tampa, Florida. If this is the 16 foot canoe that you asked about previously then it may be number 124492 which is a 16 foot long, CS grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with open spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch trim, a keel. It was built between February, 1938 and April, 1939. The original exterior paint color was dark red. It was shipped on April 26th, 1939 to Amsterdam, New York. Scans of these build records can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.
These scans were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at
http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See
http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and
http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.
You may want to verify the width of your canoe since the HW model was originally 33 inches wide and your first posting indicated a Yankee model that is 36 inches wide. More specifications are available from
http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/dimens-1.gif and
http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/dimens-2.gif The information at
http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?t=791 may help you confirm the correct serial number. There are not many other clues to indicate the approximate age of your canoe.
It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if these descriptions don't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck,
Benson
