Tractor paint

I'm thinking of using Valspar tractor paint on my canoe. The can says to use a primer first, is this needed on the filler? If so what kind of primer should I use?

The color choices are limited but interesting. I might go with Ford Blue, havent seen many canoes with a color like that. I like the Oliver Green too.

I've used it and it's ok. I like forest green. It's not as good as Kirby or Petit.
A high build priimer is a good thing. I've used the gray Valspar primer. I do a quart (2-3 coats) of primer and then the color (three or so more coats) and sand with 220 between coats. Wet sanding is messy but less dust up the nose.
