The calm before the storm in the Adirondacks.

The outer-most fringes of hurricane Irene created the most spectacular sunset I've ever seen in the Adirondacks. I suspect things will not be as serene tomorrow.

I'm sending my best wishes to all my East Coast / New England neighbors who may be in Irene's path. May you stay safe and dry.

Hope everybody is safe in the wake of Irene....couldn't help but think of an old song....which I've reworked:

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
Hopefully soon you'll just be a thing of bad dreams

Saturday night the winds did blow, the rain did fall

I pray that friends and family had settled down
Someplace safe to wait for the skies to part
For even New York City was quiet if you strolled downtown

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
Hopefully soon you'll just be a thing of bad dreams

Sometimes I live in the country
Sometimes I live in the town
Sometimes I have a great notion
To jump in the canoe and paddle down

Irene goodnight, Irene good night
Good night Irene, good night Irene
Hopefully soon you'll just be a thing of bad dreams

Hopefully you’re stop ramblin', stop your wind a blowin'
Stop rainin' hard late at night
For now I hope all are safe at home with friends and family
Sitting down by the fireside bright

Irene goodnight, Irene good night
Good night Irene, good night Irene
Hopefully soon you'll just be a thing of bad dreams

Irene goodnight, Irene good night
Good night Irene, good night Irene
Hopefully soon you'll just be a thing of bad dreams

Good luck and stay safe
We have had about 3.25" of rain and the wind is starting to pick up.
I hope everyone will stay safe through this.

I'll bet the large boat owners on the coast wish they had simplified and just bought a nice canoe.
