Wooden Canoes are in the Blood
I’m getting old and cranky, but I’ve paid my dues, so what the hell, I likely shouldn’t say this but in the spirit of fun, the latest issue of Wooden Canoe contained an item called Synergy which I found . . . well irksome. A synopsis of the piece is that the two co-editors of the Journal have gone public with their mutual admiration society and tell the readership what a wonderful job they are doing together. Fellas, is this necessary, enlightening and in the spirit of professional journalism? I can’t imagine the editor of a newspaper getting all excited about a proposal from his leading columnist that aforesaid columnist’s next contribution was going to be a prose poem of pure self-adulation. Same would get spiked. Publishing eye candy is not the toughest gig in the world. True, it does no great harm but looks much like filler. Lift your sights a bit.
