Shop visits

The Chocorua Chapter had a great visit to the shops of Rollin and Jerry yesterday. Rollin showed an old Gerrish that once had a steam engine. This may be the same one mentioned at https://forums.wcha.org/attachments/40666/ in an article from the Bangor newspaper on July 16th, 1886. Jerry showed a new Old Town Molitor being built which led to a discussion about how Charles Molitor came to have Old Town build some canoes for him in 1921 that looked like the came from Morris. Molitor's bid at https://forums.wcha.org/attachments/40669/ may help explain this when he offered to "furnish and maintain at all times during the above contract, boats, canoes and assessories equal in number and condition to those now in use..." He had been buying fancy canoes from Morris until December, 1919 when the Morris factory burned. Fun stuff,

Benson
