Several Serial Numbers

Curious about Wooden Canoes
I need history on the following serial numbers

111 724-34 - this is a very old weathered war canoe. I'm not sure whether there are 1,2, or 3 ones at the front. It is from Michigan and is at least 34 feet long.

98496-25 This is a 25 foot war canoe from Vermont

117 522-25 This is a 25 foot war canoe also from New England

20904-17 This is a closed gunnel canoe

128875-16 This is an AA grade canoe

172030-20 This is a 20 foot guide

18009-18 or 18209-18 Both ends are double stamped where the first 0/2 is. I don't know which number it is supposed to be. This is a closed gunnel CS grade canoe.

Thanks,
Scott

Scans showing all of these build records can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below. These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if these descriptions doesn't match your canoes. Are you planning a battle with all of these war canoes? Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Your last canoe may be a bit of a challenge. The Old Town canoe with number 18009 is an 18 foot long, GS (Guide's Special or low) grade IF (Indian or ideal fishing) canoe model with red western cedar planking, closed spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, and a middle thwart. It was made between June and July, 1911. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July 11th, 1911 to New York city. The Old Town canoe with number 18209 is an 18 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade HW (heavy water) canoe model with red western cedar planking, closed spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, and a middle thwart. It was made between June and July, 1911. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July 10th, 1911 to Plattsburg, New York. The most obvious differences between these two canoes would be the sheer line. The HW had much higher ends at the points than the IF model did. The Carleton canoes with these numbers are both 17 feet long but the Kennebec with serial number 18209 was their 18.5 foot long Guide's model. The last two paragraphs of my previous message also apply to this one. Please post a picture of the side view if you are not sure.
