serial number info

The Old Town canoe with serial number 104407 is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Otca model with red western cedar planking, open oak gunwales, half ribs, a keel, outside stems, and bilge keels. It was built between December, 1929 and April, 1930. The original exterior paint color was turkey red. It was shipped on April 21st, 1930 to Ann Arbor, Michigan. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match the canoe. It looks like a good one in the listing at http://www.ebay.com/itm/171754378445 from last year. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

I was about to do a search for an example of the color "Turkey Red" and thought that I'd check to see if anyone else had asked the question before. Doing a basic search within this forum for the color "Turkey Red" I came across your post asking for info on your canoe. When comparing your to mine, we have the exact same canoe, built for the very same buyer, William J. Saunders. Check out my request for information on serial number 108909. Because my canoe's build sheet does not indicate that mine was built with bilge keels, I had wondered if the bilge keels on mine were original to the canoe. After seeing that your build sheet I think it is safe to assume that they are original since everything else is the same. What is the condition of yours?
