Serial Number 128966

Hi Steve,

I'll post the build record for this canoe--

Old Town 128966 is a 16 foot CS (common sense or middle) grade Yankee model canoe with open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash seat frames, ash thwarts, and a keel. It appears to be wearing its original canvas, with "Pal" on the right and left bow. It was shipped to Detroit on May 13, 1940.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

The Yankee seems to be a good all-purpose canoe... it was commonly used by children's camps and as a livery boat and came only in the 16 foot size (so saying it is a 16' Yankee is a bit redundant!). The Yankee model was retired in 1957 and the mold has been used to produce the 16' Otca model since that time.

The limited pictures on eBay suggest the canoe is in good shape, without modifications that would need to be re-done-- it's been repainted, but they didn't paint over Pal's name!
