Hi there, I am very new to restoring canoes. But I was just given an Old Town canoe in decent shape, but I am unsure of the materials needed to fix up to factory specs. Was hoping to get some info on my canoe with the serial #: 182034

Thanks so much!

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 182034 is a 16 foot long FG (fiberglass) model with white decks and a blue hull that weighed 87 pounds. It was built between November and December, 1968 and shipped on August 12th, 1969 to Hawaiian Gardens, California. A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. This canoe was built with fiberglass and polyester resin which is available from most marine supply stores. Epoxy resins are more commonly used today and these are another option for repairs. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the restoration,

Benson

Oh that is so cool! I can’t believe you guys help by looking that up for us!! Thank you so much, can’t wait to get started on the renovation, any ideas on where to buy the same shade of dark blue that it is? Thanks all for your help.

The original gelcoat color code was A9-402 but you will probably need to experiment to get something that matches that today. A good automotive body shop can probably help if you are having trouble. Your donation is much appreciated. Good luck,

Benson
