Curious about Wooden Canoes
I just wanted to share a few pictures of the scale model strip canoe I built.
I got full size plans to build a 17' Northwest Cruiser fully intending to build the canoe, but at the time I was living in an apartment and didn't have anywhere to work on a full size canoe. So I had the plans reduced to 1/12ths scale.
I built a scale strongback, cut out the forms and stripped it with 3/16ths basswood strips. I built it exactly the same as if I was building a real canoe (without fiberglassing). Now that I am building the full size canoe, I believe that starting with the scale model taught me a lot.
Thanks for viewing.
