Ronin paint?

Have any of you used a Ronin paint on a canoe? The company makes paints designed for outdoor sign painting, so I would think they would be suitable for use on a canoe. I have some paint and like the color, so will use it unless someone tells me that they have had a bad experience with it. Tom McCloud

Never heard of it, but if it is for outdoor signs it must be ok for wet and dry cycles without failure.
You could send the color patch to Kirby Paints and they will match the color win a true marine enamel..

Mac. I have only used their " Gold Paint " and it turned green after a few years. I suspect the particulate in the mix was the offender. You get what you pay for. I realize you are not talking imitation gold paint, but a word to the wise, I guess. I am doing over with the REAL STUFF !! Dave

Thanks to Dave & Dave for their comments. I have to correct my post: it is the Ronan Paint Company, located in the Bronx: here is their web site if you want to check them out: http://www.ronanpaints.com/ For better or worse, the first coat was applied this morning. The paint is thick, covers well, lays down, the brush did not drag. If there are any sags you have to get them quickly, as the paint starts to dry fast. During the summer, and after some outdoor paddling in the sun, I will find out whether using this paint was a mistake.

I do not have experience with Kirby, but I have had several unsatisfactory experiences trying to get a 'major paint retailer' to match a color swatch I took to them. You really never know for sure what the color is going to look like until it is on the substrate you are painting, and the paint is dry.

And Tom....I have had excellent results matching whatever I wanted with EPIFANES Marine. The paint is unbelievably friendly and a joy to use.

A concern I would have is being this is sign paint, will it be too hard/brittle for the canvas on a canoe?

A good point, Dan, and one I had not considered. The Ronan label says it has good adhesion to wood, and it is going on an all-wood canoe with the surface well-primed. I did not use penetrol, but thought about it. Tom McCloud

The canoe shown at http://forums.wcha.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=30254&d=1416783327 has had sign paint for many years on the red and Ronan for the blue as shown below. One portion of a small blue triangle has come off but that was more likely to have been caused by insufficient surface preparation.

The problem with gold paint turning green may not be limited Ronan paints. The canoe shown at http://forums.wcha.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=5305&d=1215358989 came from the factory with a gold paint stripe that slowly turned green after being used in the ocean. It has been replaced with gold leaf which doesn't have this issue.
