18' canoe, 36" wide serial number 1549.

It will take more than a serial number to identify this canoe. The record for 1549 is not available from either the Old Town or Carleton records. Kennebec assigned this number to a 16 foot long lapstrake rowboat in 1921. It may take an in person inspection to look for other clues. Dave's Racine ID is most likely correct. The seats and thwarts are both shaped like Racine's. The seat bolts through the deck also suggest Racine. It looks like the outwales are riveted which if so, almost certainly identifies it as a Racine. As to whether it was made in Racine, Muskegon, St Joe, or somewhere else, I don't know.
