124499 was assigned to a 16' CS (Common Sense) HW Model (Heavy Water) with open spruce gunwales, ash seats, decks and thwarts. It had a keel installed and was painted Fire Red (I don't know if Fire Red is the same as Ghastly Red
). As you can see by the attached build record, the delivery date and location are unreadable, but it was built in February of 1939. I looked at the images of surrounding records to verify that the number is correct, but by the shape of the text blocks for delivery info, it does not appear to be built as part of a large shipment to a single vendor.
Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at
http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. Please join WCHA or make a tax deductable contribution so that services like this can continue. See

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
