Have an OT runabout/skiff in the shop and could use the build record. The serial number is partially obliterated, but I think it is 12877. Can someone look this up and see if it is for a 16' boat with sponsons? Thanks much!

The Old Town with serial number 12877 is a 17 foot long HW model with two pointed ends that shipped to New York City in 1910 so that doesn't seem like a good match. My guess is that you probably have the one with number 128775. This is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, square stern model with open mahogany gunwales, a mahogany deck, mahogany seats, a keel, outside stems, a floor rack, and sponsons. It was built between December, 1939 and December, 1940. The original exterior paint colors were dark green with tropical green on the bottom. It shipped on June, 17th, 1941 to Reno, Nevada. A scan showing both of these build records can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your boat. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
