Please post Build Record for OT # 43573. This should be a 17 foot , open gunnel, CS grade canoe, possibly an OTCA. If this is not a match please try 43673 - figures are very faint in both ends of the canoe. Thanks, LEW

Hi, Lew--

Seems Old Town 43573 is the correct record (43673 is an 18 foot IF model). 43573 is a 17 foot CS grade Otca, built between June and August of 1916. It was planked in red Western cedar, has open spruce gunwales and birch decks, thwarts, and seat frames. It was fitted with a keel and painter ring, painted dark green and shipped to Morton Crowell (I think) in Hammonton, New Jersey on October 9, 1916.

A copy of the scan of this record is attached. Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details.

I know you're a member, but others reading this way want to join WCHA or make a tax deductible contribution so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA, http://www.wcha.org/wcha_video.php to watch a 10 minute video about WCHA and our programs and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

Thanks, Kathryn. Looks like we have a match. I will be speaking with the owner of this nice old canoe about a restoration project, which will start with a fiberglass stripping project!! LEW
